American Bridge International (ABI) Awarded Severn Bridge Contract 150 150 American Bridge

American Bridge Company (AB) is pleased to announce that Severn River Crossings PLC has awarded American Bridge International (ABI) the M48 Severn Bridge Main Cable Internal Inspection CI-3 contract, the third cable inspection contract on the bridge, which is a major crossing between England and Wales.

The ABI team will facilitate the inspection of eight main cable panels using a mix of low and high level access systems and will also design, fabricate, and install a bespoke 10t gantry for the high level works. ABI intends to build on this contract, to further develop the company’s bridge maintenance and rehabilitation business.

“Having been with AB for just over 12 months, it is fantastic to have played a part in this successful bid; delivering ABI’s first solo UK contract and now on to deliver the project for one of the UK’s principal bridge owners” said AB UK and European Operations Manager Jim Mawson.

AB has or is performing cable inspection and maintenance on the George Washington Bridge (New York City), Verrazano Narrows Bridge (New York City), Wheeling Bridge (West Virginia), Angostura Bridge (Venezuela), Lions Gate Bridge (Vancouver, Canada), Williamsburg Bridge (New York City), Angus Macdonald Bridge (Halifax, Canada) and many others. Works on these projects have included the replacement and destructive testing of hanger ropes, cable unwrapping, re-compaction, and re-wrapping, cable wedging, broken wire repair, cable dehumidification, hand rope replacement, cable band and cable band bolt replacement and re-tensioning, painting, and other tasks.

ABI is also working on the Queensferry Crossing project in Scotland, where it is a partner in the Forth Crossing Bridge Constructors (FCBC) joint venture that is the design-build contractor.
