American Bridge Company Awarded $31.3M to Construct New Port in Bahamas 150 150 American Bridge

Tampa, FL – American Bridge Bahamas, Ltd., a subsidiary of the Tampa District of American Bridge Company has been awarded a $31.3 million contract for the construction of the port of Arawak Cay at Nassau, Bahamas. The work involves installation of approximately 2,500 lf of new sheet pile bulkhead a new wharf platform, crane support beams, roll-on/roll-off platforms, marine furnishings. Upland work includes the replacement of an existing water reservoir by a large water tank, grading, drainage and fencing. The new port facility greatly enhances the existing port and will allow concentration of all freight shipping on the island of New Providence.

The client for the project is Arawak Cay Port Development Company, a public-private partnership between the Government of the Bahamas and a group of 19 private sector stakeholders. A ceremonial groundbreaking for the project took place May 10, 2010 in presence of Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham and Mr. Jim Mosko, Chairman of ACPDC.

Construction will start immediately and the project’s anticipated completion is scheduled for July 1st, 2011.

The project allows continuation of American Bridge’s presence in the Bahamas as well as its success on major port development construction throughout the Caribbean.
