First Span of the Tappan Zee Hudson River Crossing Project Opens

First Span of the Tappan Zee Hudson River Crossing Project Opens 150 150 American Bridge

On Friday night, a monumental occasion occurred at the Tappan Zee Bridge project site as the Rockland-bound traffic on the existing bridge shifted over to the first span of the new design-build structure. The opening of the first span comes after four years of construction on the two, 3.1 mile, parallel, cable-stay crossings of the Hudson River. Later this year, Westchester-bound traffic will also switch to the first span so that the tie-ins from the existing bridge to the landings can be demolished allowing the second span to be connected to land. In 2018, once the second span is complete, each direction of traffic will occupy one 4-lane span. American Bridge is a part of the Tappan Zee Constructors, LLC (TZC) team working to make the replacement of the existing Tappan Zee Bridge a reality. Congratulations to all involved!
