This project involves the removal of portions of the upper level orthotropic deck along each side of the main floor beams, to be replaced with prefabricated, prepaved 6’ (2m) wide orthotropic deck panels spanning over each main floor beam at 79 panel points. The new replacement panels will be placed with the shorter dimension (6’, 2m) parallel to traffic. The contract also includes installation and modification of structural steel, including the replacement of secondary floorbeams; repair of structural steel members at various locations along the bridge including replacing missing bolts and corroded rivets, repair of corroded members, and repair of cracks; performance of ultrasonic peening to welds not exceeding 5” (127mm) per location in under the orthotropic deck welds in the field at over 50,000 locations; incidental lead abatement; installation of drainage scuppers and appurtenances at approximately 140 locations along the bridge; repaving of the westbound upper level asphalt surfaced steel bridge deck with approximately 2,600 tons (2,359mt) of Rosphalt 50 asphalt mix; rehabilitation of finger joints; temporary relocation and restoration of associated utilities such as sign structures, conduits, and traffic counting devices that impact construction; maintenance of traffic; provide for ramp closures, detours and lane closures as may be required for maintenance and protection of traffic during construction; provide temporary barriers, temporary pavement markings, and other typical devices to provide adequate protection for both workers and patrons; work in the roadway will occur at night (Monday through Thursday from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., Friday through Saturday 10 p.m. to 10 a.m.); and design and installation of temporary work platforms under the upper level deck. |
