This design-build contract was undertaken by American Bridge, with Parsons Brinckerhoff as a design subconsultant. The work included servicing and inspection of the structural steel turntable at the Long Island Railroad Morris Park Yard Maintenance Facility. The existing turntable was inspected and removed for a center bearing change-out. The existing center bearing was removed and replaced with a new custom designed center bearing. The existing turntable weighs approximately 95 tons and was originally manufactured by American Bridge circa 1908. The work was undertaken during a 96-hour turntable closure in which American Bridge completed the work 36 hours ahead of schedule. |
